Two of the most important parts of our digestive system are our small and large intestine. Large intestine is made of a muscular tube, otherwise known as the colon. Its job is to carry waste, but it also absorbs water and salts during the digestion process, and stores them.
So, our colon plays two major roles in the process of food digestion: it is in charge of expelling fecal matter, and it stores nutrients along the way. To say it’s important would be a massive understatement.
Occasionally, our colon requires some help in order to keep up with the work we put it through. Adding some of the ingredients listed below will aid your colon significantly, and keep it healthy for years to come.
Ginger is not only healthy, it is also packed with flavor. It has been in use for thousands of years in Asian cuisine, and it’s no wonder that Asian people are known for their longevity and health. In other cultures, ginger is used to treat migraines, colds, hypertension, arthritis, and loads of other health related issues.
Ginger stimulates digestion, and can also relieve constipation and excessive flatulence.
Apart for being well-known for their vitamin C content, lemons are also packed with antioxidants which offer tons of benefits. Lemon aids digestion, and when consumed with warm water, it can be used to treat bloating and heartburn.
Lemons are even used for house cleaning!
The famous saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away is firmly backed by science. Apples are rich in fiber, which is the key element to improved digestion.
Apples can lover cholesterol levels, slow down carb absorption, and stabilize blood sugar levels. The fiber aids digestion, and makes your bowel movements softer, which can be extremely helpful for those who suffer from hemorrhoids.
Another way to keep your colon healthy is to use this simple juice:
- ½ cup of organic apple juice
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ginger juice
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- ½ cup warm filtered water
Mix all the ingredients well in a container, and give the mixture a good stir. Drink one glass every morning, before breakfast. Drink two large glasses after lunch, and another two glasses in the evening (6-7pm).
This total of 5 large glasses (or 8 small ones) is a daily cleanse, and should be repeated no more than once a month.
