Study: Manuka honey kills more bacteria than all available antibiotics

According to the 2009 study published by the European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Manuka honey is the best super-bug killer out there. These types of bugs quickly adapt to various antibiotics and form and effective resistance, however, this is not the case when it comes to Manuka honey. The amazing honey is native to New Zealand and Australia, and it has become so popular, inspiring numerous fake products to appear on the market. Therefore, UMF was formed, in order to regulate and protect  the authentic product. UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor, linked to the Honey Association of New Zealand.

The studies have shown Manuka honey kills bacteria very quickly, but they are also not able to create proper immunity to it. Technically, it leaves them defenseless, which rarely happens when it comes to superbugs. This is due to the compound called methylglyoxal. According to Dr. Dee Carter of the University of Sydney’s School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences, methylglyoxal causes a “multi-system failure” in bacteria. The Australian researchers found that Manuka honey killed every bacteria or pathogen  that was exposed to it.

WebMD claims that Manuka honey can prevent and treat cancer, stabilize high cholesterol, reduce systemic inflammation, treat eye, sinus and ear infections, digestive problems and diabetes. It is also recommendable for skin treatment and against leg ulcers. Some contemporary studies suggest it could be helpful in the treatment of gingivitis since it reduces plaque build-up. The national Cancer Institute has approved its use of reducing inflammation of the esophagus which is caused by chemotherapy.

When buying this product, be sure what you’re getting is indeed the original and not a fake product since only the authentic Manuka honey has the proper bacterial fighting properties. You can buy it in Amazon online health stores or through Australian market.
