Dandelion or taraxacum officinale is a pretty common plant, but very few are aware of the fact that this everyday flower is a powerful medicine that fights severe diseases such as, for instance, cancer.
Dandelions possess plenty of minerals, vitamins, and nutrients in general which made them very popular in Chinese traditional medicine, where they were used for healing inflammations, kidney disease, and digestive problems. Dried and ground dandelion plants are edible and can elevate your immunity system which is a great cancer development prevention.
In 2015, in Windsor Regional Cancer Centre in Canada, a human clinical trial concerning dandelion has begun, involving 30 patients with end-stage cancer.
In the case of pancreatic cancer, dandelion root extract was found to induce programmed cell death, or apoptosis. It also successfully destroyed leukemia and melanoma cancer cells in lab mice.
Although the process of testing is still going on, the authors of the 2012 study are optimistic:
“We demonstrate that dandelion root extract has the potential to induce apoptosis and autophagy in human pancreatic cells with no significant effect on noncancerous cells. This will provide a basis on which further research in cancer treatment through dandelion root extract can be executed.”
While traditional cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation kill all kinds of cells and harm the immune system, extract from the dandelion root has been found to do the opposite.
Traditional cancer treatments like chemotherapy are aggressive and kill the healthy cells as well as the sick ones, but, according to above mentioned Canadian researchers, dandelion root extract kills only cancer cells, leaving the healthy cells intact.
However, the experts don’t recommend mixing natural remedies, such as this, with other cancer medications and treatments without consulting a doctor.
Of course, one doesn’t need to suffer from cancer in order to enjoy the health benefits of dandelion which are remarkable indeed. This ordinary plant helps treat kidney disease and weight issues, it contains vitamins A, B6, and C, calcium, iron, copper, and riboflavin. It also has a high level of proteins and fibers.
